Nevermore

Once upon a midnight dreary,
As I sat, oh so weary,
Mind in shambles, I nursed an old forgotten sore.

Presently my mind grew stronger,
Then I hesitated no longer,
And I quickly paced acrossed the floor.

To my one and only sinful vice,
Acrossed the floor soft as mice,
Turned the key, opened bottle, down my thoat contents where no more.

The storm outside grew less dire,
Then I found some change to hire,
Hire the wench who lives outside my door.

Suddenly there came a rapping,
Oh so gently it came tapping,
Tapping at my chamber door.

Instantly my heart grew sickened,
And my sober thoughts they quickened,
Quickened to heights like never known before.

"M'sieur" I spoke, "or Mme, surely your forgiveness I implore.
I was lightly napping,
When you came oh so gently rapping,

Rapping at my chamber door, only this and nothing more."

Again my heart grew stronger,
Again I hesitated no longer,
And I threw open my chamber door.

Darkness was all that greet me,
Only terror to entreat me,
Dreaming dreams no mortal has e'er dreamt before.

Hastily I threw closed the wooden panel,
To my bed for sleep I did channel
To myself I whipered,
"Rum before bed Grantaire? Never more!"
